The Sun Don't Set On A...


I don't know how I survived some of my first years driving without sunglasses. Not only do they highly improve safe driving {yes, I do tell myself that especially on days when the sun is just out of control and don't even get me started on the glare in the heart of the winter} but they are also one of my favorite accessories.

So, what's your preference? Black? Tortoise? Cateye? Round? 

I'm currently on a tortoise kick, and these just may be my number one pick.

Friday's Fancies::April Showers

How do I plan to keep a smile on my face during the upcoming gloomy April showers?  I thought you would never ask.  You're so thoughtful.

And to answer your question, I will wear bright accessories.  Do I have bright necklaces? Yes. Do I have any other bright jewelry? No. The rest is all silver or gold.  Timeless yet not nearly as fun as these beauties below:


As for earrings, the brighter the better.  And for the rings, the more the merrier.  I am in need of some put a smile on your face because I'm so pretty jewelry.  I am headed to NYC on Monday and expecting to find some fabulous pieces.  Which leads me to my next point that the no shopping until Easter will be put on hold while I'm in NYC.   I hope you understand as I don't know the next time I'll be in NYC and well, frankly, I don't have the will power.  Honesty counts for something, right?!

As for my weekend, I'll be heading home tonight for my first official night of Spring Break and getting a munch needed mani/pedi with my mom on Saturday. Sunday will be spent celebrating one of my hilarious Uncle's birthdays with the family and prepping for my trip some more.  Let's just say I only know how to over pack.

Arm Candy

I am in need of some major arm candy.  I typically wear my gold MK watch with my David Yurman bracelet.  Ya, that's it.  I'm bored just typing that.  No arm party for this girl.  In need of some serious stackable pieces. This is where BaubleBar comes in. So many beautiful pieces.  Did I mention that my birthday is in April and that it never hurts to plan ahead? Oh, okay. Just checking. 

 But yes, I am partial towards the Think Pink Strand and the Roseland Disco Wrap.  The Gold Open Bangle Set + Disco Ball Bangle would be gorgeous layered. I think I would mix and match these four pieces the most.

Update: My favorite Think Pink Strand must have sold out last night or this morning after I put this post together. You can bet I will be stalking to see if it returns to the back in stock. Even though I still can't buy it until April 8th.

I have loved BaubleBar since the first time I discovered the website, but I had to share my BB love with you all because of my most recent purchase.  I bought a gift for a friend (remember I gave up shopping for Lent so no it was not for me!).  First and foremost, amazingly fast shipping.  Secondly, I am an idiot and couldn't understand how to make the bracelet bigger. Still can't tell you which bracelet because the friend has yet to receive said bracelet.

  I emailed BaubleBar and got a response extremely fast from the fabulous Nina.  Then I proceeded to make my sister follow her instructions since the bracelet was left at home (Thanks, A!), and we still couldn't figure it out (We're ridiculous, I know.  It's been one of those weeks).  I emailed Nina again. She then sent me a video, and we sorted everything out.  How amazing is that?! Best. Customer. Service. Ever.  So thank you BaubleBar for your patience and gorgeous products. Nina, you are fantastic.  

And to top it all off, free shipping on all orders and returns.  I know where I'll always be shopping, do you?!

Weekend Snapshot

Life has certainly been busy lately.  I feel like if I can make it through the next 10 days, I can do anything.  But until then, it will be lack of sleep and lots of chai tea and green tea. 

In the midst of a stressful month, why not wear some of my favorite necklaces to put a smile on my face in the morning? Yes, necklaces really do make me happy. End of discussion. And I really do listen to Call Me Maybe every morning now and do a little dance while getting ready.  Judge away.

This week and weekend I brought out some statement pieces and layered baubles because, well, the more the merrier.

 I now have a new favorite combination: chambray + cozy knit (& Spike the Punch, of course)

And any weekend where pico de gallo is involved is A okay in my book.  I had left overs from Friday night's dinner with Boyfriend B and naturally had to make some nachos come Saturday. 

I also managed to do 6 loads of laundry and bake 48 muffins on Saturday AND got to meet Julia for brunch on Sunday.  We had a blast, and I got a nice little tour of her home town.  She was just as sweet and fun as expected. It was a perfect start to my Sunday.

Sunday's Best

While taking a slight break from my lesson planning this weekend, I stumbled upon this gem.

I thought this could make a fabulous gift for oh so many occasions.  You could buy these for someone to layer for their birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc.  Or maybe one of your friends just really has a number she loves? Wear it solo or paired with more numbers.  

Other ideas: if you have a sister, or two, or three, (I could keep going, but you get it) you could get each one the number for what sister that they are.  For example, since I'm older than my twin sister by one whole minute, I would get the one and give her the two.  See where I'm going?

Banana Bangles

I would be lying if I said I was not a frequent Banana Republic shopper.  I love the products and most importantly love that I can usually get 40% off their items.  I refuse to buy a piece from the store if it is not on sale because I'm pretty certain I will get an email the next day with a coupon.

I think they have really outdone themselves with their current selection of bangles.  I don't wear many bracelets because I have these oddly small, child-like wrists, but I would love to add some of these to my collection

Let's Talk Hair

While going into teaching and just feeling like I'm always on the run, I don't want to deal with my hair a lot of the times.  Am I right or am I right dad and Boyfriend B?  Do you hate dealing with your hair too?  I'm sure.

Moving on, I either wear my hair down (it's stick straight and nothing special) or pulled back with my bangs pulled back as well.  I occasionally throw it up in a messy bun, but that's just not professional nor appropriate for my first grade practicum placement.  I also use headbands from Target, but they always seem to give me headaches and don't sit perfectly on my head.  There are weird gaps that I hate.  But then, my lovely twin sister A introduced me to these gems:

 They look like normal headbands on, but they're not-they're better!  You can bend them more like a workout headband, they stay on just as well, if not better,  they don't give you headaches, and there are no weird gaps between my head and the headband!  Trust me, I was skeptical, and whom better to review them than a skeptic, but I tested them throughout last week much to my liking.  In fact, I wore them to the gym, to my classes, and to teach the first grade nuggets:


 I also now have a new favorite up-do that could be just perfect for your holiday parties this December.  Have you seen the sock bun tutorials roaming around cyber space lately? Well I had and wanted to give it a try.  Again, I was skeptical because my hair is very layered, and I didn't know how it would stay.  I used this tutorial:

First time through, it didn't go so hot.  Second time through I got this result:





Day One: I was extremely relaxed with how I put my bangs back and didn't mind all the fly-aways sticking out of the bun since I was just doing homework around my apartment the rest of the night.  I personally love the relaxed look, but if I use it for teaching or a more formal function, I would spruce it up a bit and possibly add one of my new favorite headbands.  No bobby pins needed at all to hold in the bun, which is an added bonus!

Day Two: I'm sad to report that due to my layered hair, the bun did not stay in as long as expected, so I tried it again the following day and put some bobby pins in.  It has lasted all day (fist pump)! I also put my ponytail up higher so you could see the bun when looking straight on.  I like this placement more.



By the way, the sweater I'm wearing in the first sock bun pictures is the one I talked about here.  I've worn it over a plain white tee, a 3/4 black shirt, and even a casual tank top.  It looks great with leggings/skinny jeans and boots.  But don't forget the power of a belt! I layered it over a dress and belted it as well one day and love the look. 


There are just so many possibilities!  But I think I like it belted the most for now.  It was a great sweater to invest in because I can wear it so many different ways.  I may have to just add some tights and wear it as either my Christmas Eve or Christmas outfit.

Currently Dreaming Of: The Perfect Bag

Happy December! I'm going kick of one of my favorite months with one of life's tough questions [insert sarcasm here].  Is there such a thing as THE perfect bag?

I would argue yes, but then as soon as you find THE perfect bag, you turn around and think, "No THIS is the perfect bag."  This can cause quite the issue if you ask me.  

I've created a collection of bags I firmly believe could be front runners for that perfect bag we are all searching for.  While I love my Longchamp, it's a tad worn out and could use some more pockets.  I ordered the Zara bag that is right smack-dab in the middle; however, I thought it was going to be smaller than it was.  It was not what I was looking for at the moment so I returned it, but I'm still keeping my eyes on it until I can find a way to justify the purchase.  As for the rest, a girl can dream.  I have been staring at the Marc by Marc Jacob's bags for a long while, not able to decide which one I would use more.  Love the hobo, but it may be a little long to wear as a crossbody bag.  I chose neutral colors because if I am investing in a bag, I want to be able to wear it with anything and everything.

Essie to the Rescue

A wonderful lady that I had the privilege to live under the same roof with for a year and a half (why did you have to go abroad?!) will always hold a place near and dear to my heart.  She constantly reiterated the importance of keeping well-manicured nails, and you could always count on M to have some envy-worthy nails.  No, this is not the only reason I like her.  C'mon folks you know me better than that.  She can make you laugh for hours on end...no exaggeration.  If you are lucky enough to know her or one day meet her you know/will know exactly what I mean.  And be sure to check out her nails.

In honor of said friend, I have been keeping my nails in top notch shape lately.  I would go as far as to say that I've become a slight complete nail-snob.  At least I can admit it right?  It just makes you look more polished (literally).  I used to be terrified to put any color on my nails besides a pale pink or nude so I went WAY out of my comfort zone on my latest purchases, and by way out of my comfort zone I mean as close as possible to a neutral palette without getting too crazy.  Meet the newest additions to my Essie collection:

Good right?!  Feel free to hire me whenever you please.  In the mean time, I think I'll work on mastering this but will another color besides black:
